Do you have any OTHER potty training tips?

I am in the midst of potty training (or at least trying to) my eight month old male maltese-poodle. I have had him for a few months but here's the situation: he will go outside when i take him, but if i don't take him sometimes (for like an hour) he needs to go, he sometimes just goes on the carpet when he feels like it! Especially pooping, he poops inside majority of the time :/ I know you are supposed to take them out when they wake up, after they eat breakfast, every 2 hours, after dinner, and before bed, but this doesn't seem to be working FULLY? My Mom said if I can't get him potty trained soon, then I can't keep him :/ He's ruining our carpet everywhere.
