Did the dog have a stroke?

My childhood dog, now my grandma's dog, will be 17 this coming October. She is a terrior and has been declining with age. Yesterday, she collapsed on the driveway and after several attempts to get back up, she gave up, her hind legs just wouldn't work.... This continued on for the afternoon, but by evening she was hobbling around a little, (no stairs, enough to go to the bathroom). Is it possible that this dog had a stroke?
